
In 1886, David H. Mc Connell started a company called the California Perfume Company
(CPC) In 1886, when he was 26 years old. The company offices were established
in New York, at 126 Chambers St, a manufacturing and shipping office operating
from a room only 20ft by 25ft (60 sq meters). Mc Connell's first General Agent, Mrs. P.F. Albee, is still remembered today as a model for Avon Reps and zone managers worldwide. In 1906, California office destroyed by San Francisco earthquake. It reopens immediately. Mc Connell's growing organization also has offices in Luzerne, Pennsylvania, and Davenport, Iowa. 10,000 Representative and Depot Managers are selling 117 different articles in 600 styles and package sizes. Advertisments appear in Good Housekeeping. In October, first color brochure is published. Today, over 2.6 million reps are winning an additional $2 billion in commisions for themselves, and their families, fulfilling a record 650 million customer orders in 135 countries. Avon has built one of the most powerful distribution channels in history, and it is still growing. Developing markets in Central Europe and South-East Asia are booming, as established markets are contemporized. Global brands such as Anew and Avon Color are helping to develop Avon's image as a beauty company to rank with the best. And in only five years, the Avon Worldwide Fund for Women's Heath has raised $50 million to support women. |
